Quiring -- Exciting Adventure : The author has woven times and places into a great mystery where, his characters come to life in the mind’s eye by his spot-on descriptions. Then, along comes Dr. Dave, a friend for years, and nosey me has to read his first book. I LOVED it and thought, " there's a book in everyone and now Dr. Dave has gotten it out of his system" but low and behold... here's yet another one and i was privilaged to read it prior to printing. My goodness! What a great plot. It is a book that literally has something to appeal to everyone. Adventure, futuristic plots, romance and health care! I loved every page of The Last Immortal. Dr. Daves writing is clearly not boiler plate sci-fi. and reflects the years of leadership, research, teaching and patient care of Dr. Davis, on an international level. Take the plunge as I did and immerse yourself in The Last Immortal. You will wonder... is this fiction or reality? ( Reviewed in the United States on November 3, 2021 )
- 5.0 out of 5 stars from Cynthia -- Thrilling mystery! : For a new novelist, Davis in the Last Immortal demonstrated that he knows how to create a mystery thriller with complexity and nuance that keeps the reader eager to turn pages. We follow an eclectic band of collaborators assembled on the fly who serve as sleuths in the puzzling disappearances of physicians all of whom knew each other as medical students. Davis takes us on a vivid journey across history and across the globe to solve the mystery of the disappearances. Where we find answers points to even larger questions about ourselves and perhaps those amongst us. In their hunt, the amateur sleuths discover unanticipated connections across their team, almost as if Davis wishes to remind that all of us are connected in more ways than we guess. Yes, there is science and science fiction, but for one who does not generally gravitate to that genre, I found that Davis is so skillful in using science to make the events so believable that I craved to understand more and even wondered if the untold relationships across the historical events that he points to could be unlocked today? This is a compelling read, and left me hoping for yet another “Noah” novel to see where he goes next! ( Reviewed in the United States on October 30, 2021 )

A trail of tiny clues have been woven into this novel that calls attention to the mortality of mankind. The characters are numerous-I needed a notepad. It traverses centuries and continents as it weaves together a haunting mystery, a whodunnit, and international intrigue. I loved how it included some of the most cutting edge science as a backdrop to the riddle of long life. The characters are brought to life with an interesting array of strengths and weaknesses that is very engaging. The author adds details to the various locations that only a well-seasoned traveler would know. It is an easy, and fun, read and I highly recommend it to anyone who needs a fanciful escape. Vesuvius and the pyramids of Egypt, and the contemporary city of Dubai and the continent of Antarctica. There are unexpected plot twists and turns throughout this adventure searching for evidence of “immortals” in history and in current times, and trying to use genetics to create immortality. The ending is a surprise which is, of course, what you want it to be.
